The Space

Take a look at what Barmoffity Shepherd’s Hut has to offer.

Our Shepherd’s hut is set on the outskirts of the small conservation village of Kirkpatrick Durham and within 5 miles of the busy market town of Castle Douglas.

There are lots of opportunities for different activities including walking in the Galloway hills, cycling on the 7Stanes mountain bike routes, bird watching, wild life spotting and for the more adventurous visitor, water sports at Galloway Activity Centre. Remember to bring your walking boots and bike!

Our hut offers a cosy retreat from a hectic life, with a log burning stove inside and the fire pit outside. The stove can be used for cooking “one pot wonders” or for making that perfect cuppa as you relax in our warm and welcoming hut. The king size bed was custom made for the hut, and has a super comfy mattress, British wool quilt and pillows, and of course, lots of blankets to keep you snug on cooler nights. The hut has a reclaimed 1950’s “lusty maid saver” kitchen cabinet that houses everything you will need for your stay, from champagne flutes to enamel mugs. We supply tea, coffee, a selection of pukka teas and milk to get you started. If you need anything else, we can organise most things for you or you can get shopping from our local village shop or from Castle Douglas. Outside, the fire pit can be used to BBQ, or you can simply sit round the fire pit, wrapped in blankets with a glass of wine and watch the stars.

Our well stocked outdoor kitchen area has most of the utensils you will need to allow you to cook, from pots and pans to a small gas stove. This area can be used to prep and cook food and wash the dishes while watching the geese and moorhens on the loch.

To allow you to fully embrace off-grid living, in our artisan-built toilet, we have a “woo woo” composting toilet (no smells and full instructions given!) and an off-grid shower, with hot and cold running water to complete your stay. We use eco-friendly products, and we would respectfully ask that you use these when you are staying with us.

As we are completely off-grid with no electricity, we suggest you bring a battery pack for your electronic gadgets, or maybe decide you don’t need them for your stay. We support the ethos of off grid and wild camping, operating a “leave no trace” policy, so ask that you take your rubbish home with you; there is a bottle bank in the village, if needed.
